5 Toxic Workplace Behaviors That Don't Lead to Increased Productivity or Profit

Introduction:

Office is a workplace where people with different ideas meet to achieve common organizational goals. There are various industries around us existing with their own unique values & cultures. In recent years we can see the drastic shift in workspace culture; people focusing on healthy & balanced working culture over company reputation and benefits. Here are some reasons we are going to discuss.

  1. 1. Overworking: Long working hours has become an unseen enemy of productivity that leads to burnout, reduced creativity, and compromised decision-making abilities.Overworking can be found in most of the companies and it is changing day by day employers are considering remote jobs, flexible hours, creating a refreshing workspace. Working in the office can be fun as long as there is a healthy working schedule and balance of refreshments.
  2. 2. High Pressure: Most people work best when they are under a calm situation whereas companies create an opposite environment that gives counterproductive results. High pressure is a recipe for disaster that puts an employee under constant pressure to achieve unrealistic targets and deadlines. Employees under high pressure become stressed and anxious, negatively affecting their mental well-being and, in turn, their productivity.
  3. 3. Excessive Competition: In the workplace healthy competition leads to growth and creativity. In a competitive environment employees may get the impression of being better than others rather than being better with others. This creates an obstacle in team formation to achieve organizational goals; people might not share the knowledge and ideas in those environments which leads to decline in company productivity or profit.
  4. 4. Blame Culture: Everyone likes to be successful but no one wants to be a failure, this is the mindset we live with and share with others. That's why people often blame others for their actions and not accept their failures. When employees are afraid of facing consequences, they become hesitant to take risks and innovate. Moreover, blame culture leads motivated employees to get demotivated that might have great potential for company success.
  5. 5. Micromanagement: Micromanagement occurs when supervisors excessively control and monitor every aspect of their employees' work. As we know autonomous and limited control over tasks kill employee morale, creativity, and overall their own potential to grow. As a result, employees feel undervalued and disengaged, leading to decreased productivity whereas we should let an employee do their best of their ability.

Conclusion:

We have to consider a balanced and healthy workspace rather than focusing and squeezing every bit of effort from an employee. Employee and company interest can be aligned and move towards a common goal if we try to improve on behaviors like overworking, high pressure, excessive competition, blame culture, and micromanagement.
